The artistic accomplishment portrays the fight between the Earps and Doc Holliday versus the Clantons and the McLaurys in absolute, acurate detail." Coming Soon: The Last Treasures of Wyatt Earp
To Whom it May Concern:
John Gilchriese collected history since he was 8 years old. He lived in Los Angeles and started his lifelong pursuit with personal interviews of the old Tombstone residents that were living in that city. He even remembers meeting Wyatt Earp, although he was so young he remembered only an impression of a tall, slender man in a dark coat.
Years later John met and became good friends with John Flood, Wyatt Earp’s secretary, partner and confidante. John Flood assisted Wyatt until his death in 1929 and later took care of Josephine. Wyatt related all of his life’s adventures to Flood - even taking him to Tombstone and around to all the areas where Wyatt had traveled. In turn, John Flood took John Gilchriese on the same journey relaying all the stories and anecdotes that he had learned from Wyatt.
Wyatt had a habit of never throwing anything away, scraps of paper, receipts, tickets; all of it went into a drawer at the end of the day. John flood saved every piece and in his later years, passed them all on to John Gilchriese who cherished and preserved each piece...(More to come later)

Original Warren Company Antique Quill Pen. Manufactured at North Manchester, Indiana during the 1890's
![]()
NEWSLETTER
of the North Manchester Historical Society, Inc.
VOLUME XIX, NUMBER 1 (FEBRUARY, 2002)
About 1950 Verling Landis was rummaging through old "stuff " in the Landis drug store building and found nearly a gross of cartons, each containing a gross of penholders bringing to light a forgotten North Manchester industry. According to Mrs. Etta Browne, sister of George Burdge who operated the drug story on this corner for many years, about 1895 Mr. Burdge backed a man named Warren in the pen manufacturing business. The penholders were made of spiral wrapped paper and the nibs were fastened into the holder in such a way they could not be replaced with new points. Fine pointed Spencerian pens were used and samples of them are just as bright as the day they were inserted into the holders. They were made in the front room of the second story drug store building. Whether fountain pens put these penholders out of business or perhaps Mr. Warren simply moved on to greener pastures is not clear but evidently Mr. Burdge was left holding many unmarketed pens. They can be frequently found about town in old collections - reminders of the Warren Manufacturing Co.
